Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Sheboygan Transit provides two types of transportation in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Accessible fixed-route bus service:
Many Sheboygan Transit buses are ADA accessible. Seating and space for up to two mobility devices is reserved near the entrance door. Standard wheelchairs may not exceed 30" x 48" or exceed 600 lbs. including user.
Sheboygan Transit's small buses deploy a lift for accessible entrance. The new passenger friendly "low-floor" bus design uses a ramp for an accessible entrance. Many buses may also "kneel" to lower the entrance step.
TIPS FOR USING THE LIFT OR RAMP:
Service animals are allowed on transit buses to assist persons with disabilities.
Sheboygan Transit operators are required to announce major intersections and locations along the route. Your specific destination can be announced upon request.
Regional Transit Connection (RTC) ADA Paratransit service: Sheboygan Transit provides paratransit service to our customers who because of a disability cannot use an accessible fixed route bus. Our ADA Paratransit service is provided by Regional Transit Connection 459-3420. There are eligibility restrictions and certification is required. An application for certification must be completed and forwarded to RTC.
Sheboygan Transit System's ADA Paratransit Service Visitor Policy : ADA Paratransit service shall be provided to ADA eligible visitors. If an individual has been certified as "ADA Paratransit eligible" by another public entity, that certification shall be honored for up to 21 days. If an individual claims ADA Paratransit eligibility, they are entitled to presumptive eligibility for up to 21 days. If service is required beyond 21 days, ADA certification shall be required.
